Cigre B1 & D1 UK Liaison Meeting 2017

CigreImage CigreImageD1The 2017 joint Cigre B1 and D1 UK Liaison Meeting will be held at the Wide Lane Sports Centre in Southampton on Thursday 16th November, from 10am - 3:30pm. B1 is the Cigre study comittee for high voltage cable systems, with a large number of working groups across a range of different topics.  D1 is the Cigre study committee for Materials and Emerging Test Techniques. All are welcome, although numbers are strictly limited to 40 due to available room space. The agenda will be as follows:


09:30 - Arrival and coffee

10:15 - 10:20 Welcome from the UK B1 Study Committee Regular member, Roman Svoma, and D1 Study Committee Regular member, Simon Sutton

10:20 - 10:30 Introduction to Cigre (for the benefit of those not familiar with the organisation)

10:30 - 12:30 Review of existing B1 working groups, reports from members

12:30 - 13:30 Lunch (provided)

13:30 - 15:00 Review of existing D1 working groups, reports from members

15:00 - 15:15 Update on other Cigre UK matters

15:15 - 15:30 Any Other Business

15:30 Event Close



A total of 40 places are available for this event, with first preference being given to those who are actively involved in B1 and D1 working groups. No fee is payable - to register your attendance, please email Liz Tillotson at, stating your name, company name, contact phone number, your Cigre membership number and any dietary requirements.  Please note that pre-registration is essential due to limited space at the venue. Note that it is not a requirement to be a Cigre member to attend the event, however priority will be given to Cigre members if the event is oversubscribed. You will receive a confirmation email within 3 days.

Local Arrangements

Venue Address: University of Southampton, Wide Lane, Eastleigh, Southampton, SO50 5PE

By Air: Southampton Airport is 5 minutes walk from the meeting venue, with regular internal flights to a selection of destinations across Northern England and Scotland.  The first flights of the day from Manchester, Newcastle and Glasgow are scheduled to arrive before the start of the meeting (see Follow signs to the Airport Parkway rail station, pass over the foot bridge to Platform 1, then walk to the pedestrian crossing with Southampton Road.  The access to the Sports Pavillion is just the other side of the pedestrian crossing.

By Rail: Train services from London via Woking and Basingstoke (minimum 3 per hour) call at Southampton Airport Parkway (2 minutes walk from the venue). There are also direct Cross Country services from Manchester via Birmingham and Reading.  From Airport Parkway rail station, leave the station from the Platform 1 side, then walk across the station forecourt to the pedestrian crossing with Southampton Road.  The access to the Sports Pavillion is just the other side of the pedestrian crossing.

By Road: The venue has free parking on a first come, first served basis.  You may need todial the reception desk if the barrier is down when you arrive.

For anyone wishing to arrive the night before the meeting, accommodation is available locally - please contact James Pilgrim ( for recommendations.  The nearest hotel to the meeting is a Premier Inn at Southampton Airport.  Given that the venue is easily accessible via both rail and road from the north, those wishing to stay overnight may prefer to stay in Winchester.
